Apostle Joshua Selman: Four Features Of Any True Spiritual Man.
Apostle Joshua Selman: There are four features of any true spiritual man. If you do not find these four features in any believer, no matter what kind of acclaims stature, that person according to scripture is not considered a spiritual man.
Four features that must be in any and every believer who has attained unto a stature of true spirituality.
1. Your Affection Or Your Heart.
Your affection must be on heavenly spiritual things. Your affection must be on Jesus and His programmes more than any other thing.
Colossians 3:1-2 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
One of the ways you will know that God is transiting you to spirituality, is that He begins to cut the effect, not necessarily the desire but the effect of carnal things around your life. It doesn’t mean they don’t benefit you(money, people), any thing that is not Christ, there is a position that it will never rise beyond in your life.
The irony is that when you walk with God, those things you want will never come to you until He’s enthrone above every other thing.
If you are not in Christ, you can pursue money at the expense of your salvation, a job, an ambition. But when you come into Christ, He begins to reorder. There is an order in which things must be in your life, for your Christian experience to profit you. If there is anything in your life that becomes a greater desire commands your affection above your love for Jesus Christ, it will tamper with your efficiency.
2. A Mentality That Is Spiritual.
The bible calls it being spiritually minded.
Romans 8:6 The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace
Your first response to life, your first response to things, is from a spiritual stand point. You sees life as God sees it.
Being spiritually minded is a product of word base transformation. There Are various templates for adopting mindset. The mindset that makes a man spiritually minded, must be word base transformation.
You are as spiritually minded as your submission to the word of God.
Act 20:32 “Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.
3. Submitting To The Leadership Of The Spirit.
Romans 8:14 because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
The Holy Spirit is the first revelation of the God-head, as far as the revelation from the scripture is concerned. The bible said, in the beginning,
Genesis 1:1-2 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
So, who is the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit according to scripture is God. When Ananias and sapphira lied against the Holy Ghost, Peter said, “you lied against God”.
The Holy Spirit walked with Jesus and the bible said, God was with Him. “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and power, He went about doing good, healing all that were oppressed of the devil, for God was with Him”.
What is the assignment of the Holy Spirit upon the earth? The Holy Spirit has a three fold assignment based on scripture;
• To the entire creation.
He’s literally the life given force that powers creation.
Take the Holy Spirit out of the earth, you will know that it is not oxygen, carbon dioxide and all the things that we find that is keeping creation. The Holy Spirit does not just work for unbelievers and believers. His ministry is not limited to men. Everything God created benefits from his presence. When there was darkness, there was no human there, but the Spirit of God had to move for restoration to happen.
• To the world of unbelievers.
John 16:8-11 When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me; in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.
When the Holy Spirit is allowed to find expression, He has a ministry not just to those who are saved, He’s the one who causes the word of God to penetrate the heart of the unbeliever and to bring him to the point where he sees the need for Jesus. No amount of eloquence and intelligent sermon is enough to draw an unbeliever to the foot of the cross. It takes the Spirit of God.
• To believers.
John 16:12-13 “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.
The Holy Spirit activates your organs, so that you are able to interact with spiritual realities without finding them controversial, without them becoming foolishness to you. It’s courtesy the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is responsible for granting you access to truth.
1 Corinthians 2:9-10 The reason I wrote you was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient in everything. If you forgive anyone, I also forgive him. And what I have forgiven–if there was anything to forgive–I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake.
The Holy Spirit is responsible for revelation. He’s the one who makes the word of God come alive to you. The Holy Spirit is responsible for guidance and direction.
The difference between guidance and direction, direction focuses on the destination and guidance focuses on the steps that gets to the destination. I can give you direction, but if you do not have guidance, you will not get there.
4. Your Passion To Obey The Word Of God.
It is one thing to hear God, it is another thing to obey. Spiritual people are obedient people. You don’t piles spiritual instructions from the scripture and the voice of the Spirit and just dump them there.
Deuteronomy 28:1-2 If you fully obey the LORD your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. All these blessings will come upon you and accompany you if you obey the LORD your God.
You must obtain grace to be obedient. There Are different levels of obedience. The highest level of obedience demonstrated in scripture, is obedience unto death. It was Jesus that demonstrated that.
Philippians 2:5-9 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death–even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name.
Spirituality is measured by your willingness to obey God, no matter how convenient or otherwise.
5. Love.
The highest index for measuring true spirituality is the degree to which the love of God as revealed in Christ is furnished within you and is manifested from you. Love.
In all this your getting, if the love of Jesus is not fully formed in you, and is not flowing through you to others, you are not spiritual. This is where many spiritual men are wanting.
Many spiritual men are not wanting in giving. Many spiritual men are not even wanting in surrender. Many spiritual men are not wanting in terms of the word and all of that. IT IS IN THIS AREA OF ALLOWING THE LOVE OF CHRIST TO FLOW THROUGH THEM.
2 Corinthians 13:14 May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
The singular description of God nature is love. The bible said it without missing word that, God is love. And if you are born of God, then, it means you are also borne out of the life of love.
It then mean, anything that carries hate, is not of God.
Proverb 3:7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil.
There are many Christians who still walk in hatred and bitterness. You can not become a spiritual man that way.
Until you have a revelation of what Jesus did, it will be impossible for you to love men the way they are, because men are wicked.
