Apostle Joshua Selman: What it means to be led of the Spirit?

It means to be submitted to the wisdom of the spirit, to submit to the guidance of the spirit,  to submit to the leadership of the spirit.

Jesus made a very interesting statement in John 21. He was speaking to Peter, and He said, “Simon, loveth thou me more than this?” And he said “Ye Lord”
He said, “feed my lamb”.
Then He made a profound statement, He said, when you are young, you are allowed to go wherever you want to go, but when you become mature, you are constrained and you do not go where you want to go.

Jesus spoke something that was very interesting there…
In the natural, maturity is characterised by independence. You get to a point when you are eighteen as we know constitutionally or twenty or so, sometimes your parents will even say, “leave my house in a hurry, you are a man. Start your own life”.
So, we interpret maturity in the physical as the degree to which constrain is taken away from your life.

But in the realm of the spirit, maturity is the degree to which you are constrained, so that even the things you want to do, you have to submit it to the wisdom and the leadership of the Holy Spirit. That is what Jesus was saying in John 21.

So, when you become a spiritual man, you get to a point where even though you want to go this way, the love of God and your submission to the leadership of the Spirit constraints you.

When Agabus the prophet came and took the belt and began to prophesy over Paul and said the holder of this, that he’s seeing death and woe coming upon the holder of this. The Apostle said, “It doesn’t matter, even though this will lead to my death”… You see that now?
I’m constrained. When he was defending himself before Agrippa, He said, “O king, I was not negligent to this heavenly calling”.

The love of God, the leadership of the Holy Spirit, when He tells you go left, even if it is fire you are entering, provided it is Him, you trust Him enough.
Here comes the danger of our obsession for guarantee, is the reason most of us may not do anything great.

One of the ways you know it is God leading you,  is that many times your flesh will fight it for a long time. God will hardly lead you consistently to your flesh and your carnal desires. Yours is to believe and trust Him, with every steps will come clarity. If you are waiting for God to clarify everything before you move, you will never go forward. There are times that the mission is “follow me”. You are not following blindly, you are following faithfully.

Beware of over dependence on common sense. It is true that wisdom is profitable to direct but make sure it is wisdom indeed.

Behind the exploit of the saint, when you see people who look foolish, getting God’s result,  is because there is a wise spirit directing them.
When you see people who look frail, commanding extraordinary result. This is the reason why there is no bragging and boasting,  it is a product of His wisdom.
Let Him direct your business and see what becomes of your business.
Let Him direct your ministry..
Let Him direct your church..
Allow Him, let Him take His place and watch the wonder working power of His wisdom.

Don’t doubt the wisdom of the Holy Spirit. He’s not only a wise Spirit, He’s an ancient Spirit. He’s lived with many people and produce glory out of them…
